Always pains me to write bad reviews, but unfortunately I had a 1-star "repair" at E & J Auto Service a few months ago. The staff is undertrained to handle diagnostic work. Brought my 2005 Rav4 in after being recommended this shop by a local mechanic. My check engine light was coming on intermittently due to the engine running rich. I have a scan tool and could see that the fuel trims were at -27% long term and no short term correction. The car was brought here twice in a week for this issue. Both times they'd call and say, "You're all set," and I'd say "Ok what are the fuel trims at now?" and it was clear they did not know how to talk about fuel trims, like at all. They must've just test drove the car with no scan tool and just watched the dash to see if the check engine light came on, not actually watching the fuel trims on the scan tool. I ended up paying $300 for a hose that had nothing to do with the issue. I ate the cost and moved on, knowing that a 3rd attempt at this shop would not lead anywhere. The issue was fixed a month later at a different shop by replacing the non-OEM MAF sensor with an OEM sensor. Once the engine computer was receiving the correct measurement of air entering the engine, the fuel trims corrected near instantly while me and the mechanic were watching the scan tool.
